How it works
- Upload frames. Drag-drop multiple images, or pick a folder. Tool loads them in upload order; reorder by drag in the UI if needed.
- Set per-frame duration. Same duration for all frames (e.g. 200 ms each → 5 fps), or per-frame (slower / faster on specific frames).
- Pick output dimensions. Default = first frame's dimensions. Resize down for smaller files (most GIFs benefit from 480px wide or smaller).
- Configure loop. Loop forever (default), play once, or play N times. Forever is the convention for autoplay in chat and docs.
- Encode. gif.js processes in a Web Worker (does not freeze the page). Progress bar shows encoding status.

Frequently asked questions
What frame rate should I use?
8-12 fps for tutorials and screenshots; 15-24 fps for smooth animation; 30 fps only when motion is fast and necessary. Higher FPS = much larger file.
Why do my colours look wrong?
GIF uses a 256-colour palette. Photos with gradients and skin tones suffer; flat-colour graphics are fine. For higher quality, use WebM / MP4 instead.
How do I make smaller GIFs?
Reduce dimensions. Reduce frames (cut every other one). Reduce colour palette. Shorter duration. Each step compounds size reduction.
Can I add text to the GIF?
Pre-render text on the source frames in your image editor; the GIF maker just sequences frames. For overlaid captions, use a video editor and convert to GIF after.
Is the GIF uploaded?
No — entirely client-side. Frames and output stay in browser memory; download saves to your device.
