Crop WebP Online — Free, Pixel-Perfect, Browser-Only
Crop any WebP image to a custom rectangle, aspect ratio, or fixed size. Preserves transparency. Browser-only.
About Crop WebP
Cropping a WebP keeps a rectangular region and discards everything outside it. Useful for tightening composition, fitting an image to a layout (16:9, 1:1, 4:5), or removing an unwanted edge. The ZTools Crop WebP tool decodes via canvas, lets you drag a rectangle (free or aspect-ratio-locked), and re-encodes the cropped result. Lossless WebP preserves alpha; lossy mode can shrink output further.
Use cases
- Tighten a hero image's composition. A photo with too much sky / floor. Crop to a 16:9 rectangle that focuses on the subject.
- Square crop for a profile picture. Service requires 1:1. Drag-locked-square crop, save.
- Remove a watermark on the edge. Source image has a logo overlaid bottom-right. Crop that region away — assuming the watermark isn't on critical content.
- Match a layout slot. A CMS shows hero images at 1920×600. Crop the source to those exact dimensions; no client-side cropping needed.
How it works
- Drop WebP. Loaded into canvas at native dimensions.
- Set crop region. Drag a rectangle. Optional aspect-ratio lock (free, 1:1, 4:3, 3:2, 16:9, 9:16, custom).
- Pick output mode. Lossless (preserves alpha exactly) or lossy at quality 1-100.
- Save. New WebP with cropped pixels. Original untouched.
Examples
Input: 4000×3000 photo, 16:9 crop centred
Output: 4000×2250 region — 16:9 aspect, centred horizontally and vertically.
Input: 1024×1024 illustration, 1:1 crop top-left 768×768
Output: Output 768×768 PNG-equivalent WebP. Bottom-right portion gone.
Input: Aspect-locked 9:16 from a 1920×1080 image
Output: 608×1080 portrait crop. Useful for TikTok / Instagram Reels.
Frequently asked questions
Does cropping reduce quality?
No — same pixels, just fewer of them. The output WebP is freshly encoded; lossless mode preserves the cropped pixels exactly.
Does it preserve transparency?
Yes — alpha is part of the pixel data and is cropped along with RGB.
Can I crop to a fixed pixel size?
Yes — toggle "fixed size" and enter exact width × height. The rectangle locks to those dimensions; you only position it.
What happens if I crop to a region larger than the image?
Tool clamps to image bounds. To extend the canvas with padding, use a separate "extend canvas" tool.
Privacy?
All in browser.
Pro tips
- For social media, lock to the platform's aspect ratio (1:1 Instagram square, 9:16 Reels, 1.91:1 Twitter card) to avoid auto-cropping later.
- For maximum control, crop in a single pass — chained crops can introduce alignment drift.
- Lossless WebP preserves the pixels exactly. Use lossy only when file size matters more than fidelity.
- Save a backup of the original — cropping is destructive in the saved output.
